Grace Pierre Bowling Penn was born on March 9th 1910 in Norfolk, Virginia to Reverend Richard Hausber Bowling and Grace Melton Bowling. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina surrounded by her family.
Grace recently celebrated her 101st birthday with her family and friends in Clemmons North Carolina and at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Mocksville NC where she had been a resident since 2008.
Grace graduated Dudley High School, Greensboro, NC in 1930. She was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia where she served on the Usher Board, the Deacon Board and Missionary Services. She helped provide lunches every summer for the youth group. Grace was beloved by her family and friends. She never knew a stranger. She dedicated her life to helping others.
She is preceded in her passing by her parents; her brothers, Andrew Carnegie, Carter, and David; and by her sister, Marie.
She leaves to remember her many family members that loved her dearly- her nephews, Richard and Andrew; her nieces, Jeanette and Jane; and 3 other generations of nieces and nephews. May her light continue to shine in heaven as it did here on earth.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Pleasant Planes Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Planes Baptist Church Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
