Mrs. Grace Marbury Harris, 76, departed this earthly life September 22, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center with her husband by her side.
She was born January 3, 1938 in Gadsden, AL to the union of Phynn and Willie Mae Marbury.
She was a graduate of Carver High School, Gadsden, AL; Talladega College Talladega, AL; received her Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in English from North Carolina A&T State University; and furthered her graduate studies in the doctorial programs at Howard University, Washington, DC and Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
Mrs. Harris taught at Carver High School, W-S, NC as well as several schools within the W-S/Forsyth County School System. She was also employed with Winston-Salem State University and several universities throughout North Carolina. In 1996, she retired from her life-long tenure in higher education with the University of North Carolina System.
She was a dedicated member of Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phynn and Willie Mae Marbury; and her sister, Olivia Marbury.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, James Harris; sister, Gwendolyn Marbury; brothers-in-law, Johnny (Valerie) Harris, Fletcher (Edna) Harris, and Roland Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, September 29, 2014 at Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ with Reverend Glenn Pettiford officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
