Obituary

Ms. Grace Louise Bush Davis was born on August 6, 1932, in Mocksville, NC. She was raised by her mother, Ruby Bush, and by her Aunt Dettie and Uncle Leo. Her dear mother, Ruby, passed away when Grace was in her early 20s, and Grace would often recount to her family how kind and humble her mother was. Those were certainly traits that she took from her mother! Grace was funny, friendly, kind, generous, humble, and hospitable. She never met a stranger. If she did, she would bring them home and feed them. Those strangers would eventually become part of the family and called her "GG" or "Grandma Grace."

Grace was a graduate of Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC, and attended The Winston-Salem Teachers College (now WSSU) for a short stint before taking a job in the radiation therapy department at NC Baptist Hospital. She also worked in various cafeterias of the WSFC School System and as a private duty caregiver for the elderly until her retirement. She cared for her elderly clients as if they were her own family and was loved and often adopted by their families. Grace met Leroy Davis Sr. on a blind date in the early 1960s, and together they raised their six children.

Grace enjoyed cooking, late-night phone calls, Pokeno, Bingo parties with friends and family, late-night soap operas and reruns of Family Feud. Grace was a prayerful and faithful woman and was a dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church (currently under the leadership of Dr. Kilgore) for over 50 years.

Grace was preceded in death by her grandson Leroy Davis III; her daughter, Tamela Ketchmore; and her granddaughter, Tyniesha Hampton.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her five children: Lila Parks, Cynthia Frasier (Haywood), Latonya Davis—her loving and faithful caregiver, Tyrone Davis, and Leroy Davis, Junior; a son-in-law, Edward Ketchmore of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Annie Davis; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, a host of extended family members and one special friend, Ms. Barbara Lybrand.

Grace was the beloved matriarch of the Davis Family and will be greatly missed. We will honor her by continuing to love one another and by being kind and hospitable. We will carry her many words of wisdom in our hearts, no matter where we go.
