THE EARTHLY SOJOURN OF MRS. GLORIA JEAN CAIN KING "QUEEN"

The earthly journey of Mrs. Gloria King came to an end in a peaceful sleep in the early morning of June 9, 2023 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. The journey of life for Mrs. King began in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on May 8, 1944 as she was the third child born to Mr. William H. Cain, Jr. and Mrs. Mary Owens Cain.
She was educated in the Public Schools, graduating from Atkins High School in 1962. Gloria attended North Carolina College of Durham, NC (currently North Carolina Central University). She was employed by Western Electric (AT&T) where she retired after 30 plus years of service. Later in life, she was a member of the YMCA; was a founding member of Just Us Casino Bus Trips. She was also a member of the Big 4 Committee that encompassed Carver, Atkins, Anderson and Paisley, a member of the Atkins High School Alumni Association, a member of St. Monica's Guild at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, and the Crickets Nest Art Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Randell A. Cain, Sr.; sister, Norma Ann Cain Jones; and many other relatives.
Great is Thy Faithfulness New Mercies I See. She is forever loved and memories always cherished by her devoted husband of fifty-nine years of marital bliss, Willie King also known as "King Willie;" daughters of love remaining to celebrate and treasure wonderful memories, Ms. Tonjua "Princess" Lynette King of Conyers, Georgia and Ms. Tawanna "T.K." King (Payton, "O.P.") of Cary, North Carolina; two sisters, Ms. Ruby O. Cain of the city and Mrs. Margaret M. (Johnnie) Bailey of Greensboro, North Carolina; two brothers, Mr. William H. Cain, III of the city and Mr. Malcolm (Carol) Cain of Catonsville, Maryland; aunts, Mrs. Hattie Jeter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mrs. Hazel Lyerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Mary (Theodore) Shields of Winston-Salem, NC; brother-in-law, James D. (Bennie) King of the city; loving sister-in-law, Mrs. Sharon Cain of the city; she was loved by her godchildren, Jordan and Morgan Burrell; her adopted grandchildren, Cedric Labon Russell, II, Chamberlain Russell, and Carledward Russell; and a host of other god children, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She designed and arranged floral arrangements and the most beautiful wreaths you could find. She and Willie, on Valentine's Day, sold an array of beautiful flowers fitting the occasion. Gloria's hobbies included framing pictures, cake decorating, floral designs, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and sewing.
Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God My Father, Morning by Morning, New Mercies I See.
Funeral mass will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with Father David McCanless, officiating and Rev. Gwathney Leak, eulogist. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Church.
