Obituary

The life and spirit of Glenn Calvin Amason, Sr. began on January 7, 1927 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born the son of Robert Alphonso and Ozella Humbert Amason. He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008 at the Kate Bitting Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

His formative years were characterized by time spent in the public schools of Forsyth County, attending Atkins High School and subsequent graduation from Carver High School.

He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army and decided on a career in the United States Air Force from which he retired after 24 years of service. He received many commendations as an Air Force Military Policeman. Following his military career, he was employed with Stroh's Brewery for 25 years from which he also retired.

His community involvement was inclusive of a number of selected organizations of choice.

He was a member of First Baptist Church (East Winston) where he joined at an early age.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McFadden Amason; three brothers, James, Henry and Leander Amason; his mother-in-law, Mary McFadden; and brothers-in-law, A. Ulysses Wilson and James Ledbetter.

Cherishing his memories are two sons, Ronnie (Brenda) of Winston-Salem, NC and Glenn (Betty) Amason of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Rahsaan and Tarik Amason of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, Kia Amason of Charlotte, NC; one great-grandchild, Nya Denise Amason of Durham, NC; two brothers, Robert, Jr. (Anne) of Upper Darby, PA and Alphonso (Lossie) Amason of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Mary Alice Ledbetter and Annie Pearl Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister-in-law, Dolores Amason of Halifax, NC; devoted friends, Dorothy Nevilles and Frank Joyner; and a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 25, 2008 from the First Baptist Church, 700 N. Highland Ave. with Reverend Darryl Aaron and Reverend Glenn Pettiford officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12 Noon on Saturday at the Church.
