Our beloved mother, Gladys Virginia Watkins Moore departed this earthly life on Monday evening, December 13, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Axton, VA to the late Hattie Martin Watkins and John "Kit" Watkins on September 25, 1930.
She was a faithful member of Dreamland Park Missionary Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC where she served as a Deaconess, and a member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Board, and Usher Board. She was a hard-working woman who took care of her family until her health declined. She was a homemaker and loved to cook, bake, clean, and canned pretty much anything that would fit in a jar. She loved the Lord and loved to sing or hum hymns as she conducted her day-to-day activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Moore, Sr.; sister, Nannie Watkins; three brothers, Jessie, Raymond, and Johnny Watkins; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Moore, Bessie Adams, and Gracie Watkins; and brothers-in-law, Sammie Gravely and Kimble Reynolds.
She is survived by her children, Beverly (Dennis) Neal and Leroy Moore, Jr. both of Belews Creek, NC, Lisa Moore (Scott) Markland and Tonya Moore both of Kernersville, NC and Daryl (Rebecca) Moore of Cornelius, NC; a special nephew, William Moore, Jr. "Cuda" of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Franchelle Pressley and Justin Pressley both of Kernersville, NC, Corie Pressley of Richmond, VA, Jackson Moore and Myles Moore of Cornelius, NC; five sisters, Marie Gravely, Doris (James) Gravely, Jean (Harry) Seay, Larneal Reynolds, and Lucille Roher all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Thurmon Echols of Axton, VA officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Friday at the funeral home.
