Obituary

Gladys Sinclair Hampton, known to many as "Lady G", surrendered her soul to the Lord with family surrounding her on Sunday, September 29, 2019.

Gladys was one of seven siblings, born on August 25, 1936 in Scotland County - Laurinburg, North Carolina. She obtained her primary education in Scotland County Schools.

Around 18 years of age Gladys took the advice of her grandfather, Dixon "Papa" Sinclair and headed North to start a life for herself.  She attended Wilfred Beauty Academy located in Newark, N.J.  She later tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit and opened her own beauty shop where she loved helping her clients feel confident and beautiful.   She was so talented that she expanded on her exquisite gift and designed and sold wigs.  It's no wonder God blessed Gladys with six beautiful, strong-willed, passionate girls to carry on her business savvy mindset, creative and fashionable style.  After years of success with her beauty shop and numerous other jobs, Gladys found her home with Tiffany & Co where she worked for over 30 years, retiring in the late 90's.

Gladys was married to the late William Hampton. They raised their family in Jersey and later relocated to Charlotte, NC.  Gladys was supportive and was a motherly figure to many. Amongst many others, she helped raise her youngest sister, Frances Sinclair.  Gladys always opened her home to family that needed a place to call home.

She was very family oriented and absolutely loved and cherished her girls, as she called them.  She enjoyed the one-on-one moments that she had with each of them as well as their times together.  She showed her girls how to love unconditionally.  She didn't hold grudges and she lived her life with a honest and pure heart.  We will forever remember that smile that she graced everyone with when she entered a room!  She knew all eyes were on her.

In her free time, Gladys loved traveling and pressing her luck playing the lottery.  Her favorite vacation spot was in Vegas!!!  Gladys enjoyed life and made every attempt to be happy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Hampton, three brothers, Weldon, Junior, and Johnny Sinclair; two sisters, Cattie Finklea and Frances Sinclair; one grandson, Lil Kenny Hampton.

She leaves to cherish her memories six daughters, Patricia (Eternal Allah) Dixon, Selena (Bernard) Horton, Gail Hampton of Charlotte, Michelle (Anthony) Wardlow of Winston-Salem, Shonda Hampton and Valerie (Michael) Short of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Curtis (Linda) Sinclair of Charlotte; one sister, Mary Sinclair of Winston-Salem; one aunt, Estelle Sinclair of Greensboro; devoted nephew, Bobby Sinclair; one brother-in-law, Melvin Hampton; four sisters-in-law, Alberta and Sally Sinclair, Tacora Haney, and Delois Robb; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Charmaine Duncan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Macedonia Worship Center.  The family visitation will be held from 3:00pm until 4:00pm on Sunday at the Church.  Burial will be held at 2:00pm Monday, October 7, 2019 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
