Mr. Gilbert A. Harris was born on March 8, 1921 to the union of Rollie Gilbert Harris and Addie Harris. He passed away December 2, 2010.
Gilbert attended Aracoma High School in Logan, WV. After graduation, he joined the US Navy.
He later worked in the Coal Mines in West Virginia. He relocated to Maryland and worked for the National institute of Health until his retirement. He and his wife, Etherine, then moved to Winston-Salem, NC. Gilbert lived life to the fullest and was an avid lover of baseball and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his sons, Rollie Harris of VA, Robert Harris of TN, and Harold Crump of Winston-Salem; daughter, Ann Sims of Winston-Salem; sister, Margaret Parrish of OH; daughter-in-law, Jane Harris of VA; grandsons, Rollie and Tony; granddaughters, Shannon and Simone; eight great- grandchildren; nieces, Joyce, Linda, Cathy, Tink, and Betty; nephews, Terry, Marty, Charles Kenneth, and Walter; and a host of step- children, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1840 Butler St., with Rev. Ronnie Roseboro officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Thursday at the church.
