Geraldine Mitchell Williams, a faithful member of Lula Street Church of God, Winston-Salem, NC departed this life on Saturday, August 1, 2009.
She was the loving daughter of Catherine Moses and Jack Mitchell. Geraldine, also known as "GW" or "Punkin" was born January 5, 1941 in Darlington County. She was a graduate in 1959 from Spaulding High School in Lamar, SC and completed one year of college at Vorhees College in Denmark, SC. She relocated to Winston-Salem in the 1960's and was married to Donald Ray Williams on July 30, 1960. She started her career at Wilson Grocery as a sales clerk and in 1998 Geraldine retired from AMP, Inc., now TYCO Electronics, as a Sample Room Technician after 35 years of service. She was well known in the community of Winston-Salem and Kernersville, NC.
She was very active in church, serving positions as Deaconess, Secretary, Usher Board Directory, Missionary Committee, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of several other community organizations.
Geraldine enjoyed all sports, but her favorite two were basketball and football. She loved crossword puzzles (Jumbo puzzle), writing, cooking, shopping, working in the yard, and conversing on the telephone. She can always bring a smile to your face with her favorite sayings; "you're ain't no good", " I have paid my dues, now you got to pay yours", and "you will be alright."
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four sisters, Eady Bell Davis, Mayese James, Louis DuBose, and Dorothy Mae Stevenson.
Geraldine was a devoted mother to her surviving children, Dawn Renee Williams of Atlanta, GA, Germaine Marty Williams (Monica) of Atlanta, GA, and Marlo Mitchell Williams of Arlington, VA; her brother, Jackie Mitchell (Diane) of Jackson Heights, NY; four sisters, Lena Manning of Hartsville, SC, Willies Gales of Brooklyn, NY, Landes Jeffery of Hartsville, SC and Lottie Coe of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers-in-law, David James of Florence, SC and Moses Williams (Vivian); sister-in-law, Helen Williams of New Carrollton, MD; and a beloved host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends,.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, August 8, 2009 from the Lula Street Church of God, 2227 Lula Street with Pastor Gwathney Leak, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Saturday at the Church.
