Obituary

Ms. Geraldine Henderson Jones affectionately known as "Nana" peacefully entered eternal rest at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren on March 29, 2024. She was born to the late Willie Henderson and Irene Smith Henderson on March 1, 1948 in the city of Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her sister, Henrietta Smith Edwards; and brother, Willie Henderson, Jr.

Geraldine graduated from Atkins High School in 1965 and was a member of the Camels Marching Band. In her former years, she relocated to Reading, PA with family where she resided for more than 10 years. After returning to Winston-Salem to care for her mother, she became employed at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. She advanced her career after receiving an associate degree and other certifications from Forsyth Technical Community College. Ultimately, she retired from Novant Forsyth Medical Center in 2014 after more than 25 years of service. Geraldine was a kind, sweet spirited, and compassionate person with a loving devotion to her family and friends. She was a highly valued family member. She extended herself to all who were in need, rather it be words of encouragement or a helping hand. Her strength and resilience were rooted in faith and a testament to her life. The love she had for her family was insurmountable. She enjoyed family gatherings with her children and grandchildren, cooking, traveling, and playing bingo. She cherished time spent with cousins, nieces and nephews while never missing an event.

She leaves behind in memory and in legacy, daughters, Sonya D. H. Jeffries and Renna L. Williamson of the city; son, Michaell Ruffin, (Latavia) of the city; grandchildren, Justin Henderson, Tisha Henderson, G. Cameron Scales, Ryan Henderson, Milan Ruffin, Mikiah Ruffin and Kingston Humphries; great grandchildren, Jordan Henderson and Mason Ruffin; a devoted aunt, Betty J.
