Jerrydean "Geraldine" McCormick Hughes was born June 4, 1939 and she was called home to glory on Monday December 25, 2017. She was a member of Faith Zone Ministries and in her early years she was a former employee of Cherry Manor nursing home, Winston Salem Convalescent Center and the Jewish home of Clemmons NC., later becoming a homemaker. She was past worthy matron with order of the Ruth Chapter of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughter of Isis.
Mother Hughes is preceded in death by her father, William McCormick, Sr.; her mother, Maude Lee Hawkins; her husband, William Bailey Hughes, Sr.; her oldest son, William Bailey Hughes, Jr.; and her youngest son, Paul Edward Hughes.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry Hughes (Thomisina) and Dwayne Hughes (Sandra); a loving Godson, Bobby Ray Simmons, Sr.; her four daughters, Sylvia Hughes, Renee James (Curtis), Sherry Hughes, and Michelle Hughes-Parrott; 21 grandchildren, Natalya Hughes of Frankfort, Germany, Demond Hughes (Artisha), Steven Hughes (Ann), Ericka Taylor (Oscar), Jermaine Lewis (Gessica), Nicole James, Kamesha Hughes, Ariel Fisher of Newport News, VA, Kendra Jackson(Patrick), Cedric Oakes, Jasmine Kight, Kiara Hughes, Deja Hughes, Kayla Hughes, Morgan Cherry (Kameron) of Cary, NC, Cameron Parrott, and Jayda Parrott; 29 great-grandchildren, Tyana, Da'Mani, Demond, Jr., RaeLynn, Steven, Jr., Khyron, Aaliyah, Keniah, Oscar, Jr., Jayceon, Jordan, Star, Lyric, Tameria, Kamayah, Xenobia, Zariah, Hilton, Dallas, Eric, RaZiyah, Aaron, Braylen, Kingston, Abram, Greg, Jr., Kanijah, Jakaseyon, and Baby Peay; two brothers, Willie McCormick of Winston-Salem, NC and Curtis Hawkins of Orlando, FL; four sisters, Annie Brooks, Emma, Cheryl, and Dorothea Hawkins all of Ocala, FL; 2 loving friends, Elsie Walker and Rose Neal; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Hanes Memorial CME Church with Bishop Keifer Bradshaw officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Church. Interment will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
