Obituary

Gerald Anthony Hutson, 87, was born in Christ Church, Barbados, West Indies on October 6, 1933 to Doris and Abraham Hutson.

He peacefully departed this life on November 20, 2020, his late wife's birthday.

In 1957, he moved to the United States where he picked fruit nationally before settling in Florida where he met the love of his life Annie Lee Vinson and they were happily married for over 53 years. Later, they migrated to New York where they raised their children.

He was employed by the state of New York as a prison officer for Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Hospital for the criminally insane and he also was a barber by trade. He started cutting hair at the age of 13 and was a barber for over 70 years, a position he held until his death. He was the first black businessman in Middletown, NY.

Gerald was an avid gamesman; he often took his children fishing and hunting in upstate New York.

Upon arriving in Winston-Salem, NC he transformed his mother-in-law, "Mama Vinson's home" into a dwelling and the well known Bus Stop Barbershop on Fourth Street.

He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Lee Vinson Hutson; mother, Doris Iona Clarke Hutson; father, Abraham Hutson; brothers, Lloyd Hutson and Allen Hutson; and stepdaughter, Gladys Freeman

Left to cherish precious memories are his sons, Michael (Cynthia) Crichiow of Canada and Eric (Karen) Hutson of Maryland; daughters, Wonda Hutson of New York and Falecia Hutson (David) Satchel of North Carolina; grandchildren, Cassandra Crichiow and Christina Crichiow, Porschea Hutson, Eric Hutson, Jr., Jaden Hutson, and Tatiana Craig; great grandchildren, Lucas and Maya; his brothers, Camie Hutson of New York and Darryl Hutson and family of London, England; sister, Orrie Hutson and family of Barbados; special niece, Sherry Hutson of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends of Florida, Canada, California, London, New York, Barbados and Maryland.

A viewing will be held from 2:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, November 27, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020. Interment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons, NC.
