Mrs. Georgia Marie Marshall Topping was born March 26, 1923 in Winston-Salem, NC to Floyd and Georgia Marshall. She passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by her family.
She was a graduate of Atkins High School, received her BS in Education from Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU), and received her Master's in Special Education from NC A&T State University. She began her teaching career in Independence, VA followed by working in the Alamance County Schools. Georgia worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System until her retirement in 1984.
She was a charter member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church where she served in many capacities including the Deaconess Board, Willing Workers, Home and Overseas Missionary Society, and an Adult Sunday school teacher. She was a daughter of Isis.
In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Topping; son, Ronald Topping; two brothers, Floyd Marshall, Jr. and Thomas Marshall; and her sister, Majorie Marshall.
Surviving are her son, Bruce V. (Ruth) Topping of Walkertown, NC; grandson, Tommy Topping of Ann Arbor, MI; daughter-in-law, Julie Topping and Rudy Free of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, June 27, 2016 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
