Georgia Hairston Sparks was born on December 29, 1933 in Clemmons, NC to Vera and Thomas Hairston. Georgia passed away on August 15, 2018 at The Oaks at Forsyth Nursing Home.

Prior to her decline in health, Georgia was a devoted member of Hickory Grove AME Zion Church.

Georgia retired from Thomasville Furniture Company. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and also enjoyed completing word search puzzles.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert Hairston, Thomas Hairston, and Willie Hairston; sisters, Emma (John) Lyons and Martha (Joseph) Brown; and her son-in-law, Jacob Chandler.

Georgia is survived by her six children, Emily Rowell of Milton, NC; Raeford Sparks, Sr. of Winston Salem, NC, Frederick (Sheila) Sparks of Winston Salem, NC, Debra Chandler of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey (Wanda) Hairston of Charlotte, NC and Vera Mitchell of Winston Salem, NC; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a devoted niece/sister, Geneva Segers; sister-in-law, Bernice Hairston; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, August 20, 2018 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dairl Scott, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Monday at the Chapel.
