Obituary

Ms. Georgia "Cook" Small Chatman, 79, went to her well-earned eternal rest on Sunday, January 22, 2012.

Georgia spent the early years of her adult life in Cleveland and would later move to Winston-Salem where she retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 30 years of employment. Many will miss her fiery banter, dry wit, love of baking, and sweet smile.

Georgia was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she previously served as a member of the Senior Choir, Carrie Flippin Missionary Circle, and D. Everette Bible Club. She also gave back to her community by serving as a volunteer for the Lupus Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents the late Paul and Minnie Small and two sisters.

Those left to cherish her memories most are her son, Rudy Small (Cynthia); grandchildren, Jamaad Small (Toni), Jessica Small, Jason Small all of Dallas, TX; sisters, Loretta Small of Martinsville, VA, Doretha Grant of Cleveland, OH, and Gloria Black of W-S, NC; brothers, Paul Small, Jr. of Martinsville, VA and Thomas Small, Sr. of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews that cared for her dearly. Local nieces Patrice Black Mitchell of Asheville, Lisa Black Thomas (Franklin) of Savannah, Sonya Black Weaks (Sonny), Ryanne Williams (Sean), Lexus Weaks, and Layla Weaks of Winston-Salem will especially miss her presence.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive, W-S, NC. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
