Obituary

Reverend George Alvin Wooten was born August 30, 1943 and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 23, 2014. He graduated from Jones High School in Trenton, NC.

After being honorably discharged from the US Army, he entered the workforce at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Sometime later he became employed with Teletype Corp, but later retired from AT&T after 29 years of service as a computer engineer. He started his own business, "The Hands of Time" where he made, repaired, and produced special items pertaining to clocks.

Rev. Wooten joined Myrtle Grove Christian Church of Maysville, NC at a young age. After moving to Winston-Salem, he "Chief", became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher, member of the male chorus, a trustee, and president of the gospel choir. After accepting God's call to preach the word, he became Pastor of Wadsworth Congregational Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances Wooten; and one brother.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Cynthia P. Wooten; his children, Lori Dillahunt, Donald S. (Karen) Melton, Tanya W. (Patterson, Jr.) Bryant, Tabitha W. Johnson, and Jennifer P. (Donald) Wardlow; grandchildren, Delmonica, Demarcus, Devin, Destiny, Paxton, Chosen, Donald N., Ryan Alvin, Kiarra, and his "Partner", Evan; his siblings, Elizabeth Taylor, Levi Wooten, Elaine (Nelson) Dove, Franklin (Sharone) Wooten, Loraine (Gerald) McNair, Melba (Kenneth) Newsome, Harold (Jennifer), and Greg Wooten; and a host of extended relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Wadsworth Congregational Church, Whitsett, NC. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family Visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.

Special thanks to everyone who helped in Rev. Wooten's time of need, especially his family, friends, Dr. Antonia and Dr. Hugo Tettamonti and nurses, and the Hospice and Palliative Care of W-S.

One of George's favorite scripture's was John 13:34: "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye Love one another as I have loved you, that ye also Love one another" So often we would say to Him I love you George and He always replied to us, I love you better…."To God Be The Glory"
