"Weep not…..Weep not….he is not dead. He is resting in the bosom of Jesus."- James Weldon Johnson
Reverend George Wilbert Price, Sr. was born June 29, 1934 to the late Grady and Mamie Price of Sandy Ridge, NC. He went to rest in the arms of his heavenly Father on the day of his mother's birth, Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Reverend Price fought a valiant fight with declining health for many long years. His faith in his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the devotion and the unconditional love from his wife and family supported him through to the end of this life.
Reverend Price graduated from London High School and attended Piedmont Bible College. He was the first African-American Shift Supervisor for the Forsyth County Emergency Medical Service for over 18 years. Every Saturday, many would see George on the Walkertown Wolfpack football sidelines with his medical gear by his side, ready to run onto the field to administer first aide assistance to an injured child. This brought comfort to many nervous parents seated in the stands.
Reverend Price became a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church shortly after uniting with his wife. He was ordained under the leadership of the late Reverend Ira L. Anthony and served as an associate minister for many years, until his health began to decline. He was a member of Red Rock Lodge #809 in Walkertown, NC.
On July 15, 1956 he married the love of his life, Inez Mitchell Price and they were inseparable for just two months short of 60 years together. From this union he was the loving and devoted father to three children, Janice Melinda Price-Black (Raulphard), George W. Price, Jr., and Tyrone Vincent Price (Roseanne); also left to mourn are one brother, Charlie Wayne Price (Kristi); one sister, Betty Ruth Watson; one grandson, Joshua Brandon Price; one granddaughter, Kayla Coward; three great-grandchildren, DJ, Cameron, and Jai'lah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
We will miss our husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. We will miss his contagious laugh, great sense of humor, his hugs, kisses, and telling us "I love you too." We will miss his homemade gravy and his many words of wisdom. Yes, we will miss him in the flesh but his memories, legacy, and spirit will live within us throughout our lifetimes. We find peace and comfort in knowing Reverend George W. Price, Sr. is resting from his almost 82 year journey on the earth. He now looks down on us as he rests from his labor, in the bosom of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Walkertown, NC with Reverend JohnnieTaylor officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Forsyth Medical Center Palliative Care Unit, Stokes County Hospice & Palliative Care, Advanced Home Care, and Senior Services for the care provided to our loved one.
