Obituary

George Spurgeon Redd, Jr. entered into his eternal home Saturday, February 7, 2015 after a one-week stay at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.

Mr. Redd was married to the late Helen S. Redd for 55 years when she passed in January 2001. He was one of the first African-American uniformed police officers for the City of Winston-Salem. He served in that capacity for over 32 years and provided exemplary and dedicated service to the East Winston Community and to the Winston-Salem community-at-large.

George was a Gold Star Member at First Baptist Church (Highland Avenue) in Winston-Salem, NC. He was also a member of the James H. Young #670, King Solomon's Consistory #64 and Past Potentate, Sethos Temple # 170.

He is survived by his sons, Oliver D. Redd, Clemmons, NC, George S. Redd, III (Brenda), Robert A. Redd (Linda) all of Winston-Salem and Carl B. Redd (Rosalind) of Garner, NC; a daughter-in-law, Judy R. Redd, Bermuda Run, NC; seven grandchildren, Christopher D. Redd (Catina), George S. Redd, IV, Crystal D. Redd, Robert A. Redd, Jr., Carla R. Jones, Carl B. Redd, II and Cameron B. Redd; nine great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Ossie C. Hairston (Jerry); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Highland Ave. with Rev. Darryl Aaron officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
