Mr. George Louis Mitchell accepted the call from God on November 2, 2023 in Murphysboro, Illinois. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.
Mr. George Louis Mitchell was the eldest son of the late George Andrew Mitchell and the late Mildred Searcy Mitchell and was born on April 19, 1935 in Pine Hall, NC. He was raised and educated in Winston-Salem, NC. He began his employment and later retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
Mr. George Louis Mitchell was a very determined young man growing up with his siblings in Winston-Salem. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, including hunting and fishing. It wouldn't be long before he met his lifelong partner, the late Pauline Miller Mitchell, and later married and to this union four children were born: George Lewis (Freda) Michell, Myra (Harold) Tucker, Melinda Morgan, and Melissa (Wesley) Sweeney.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Faye Morgan; and his sister, Hattie Mack.
Mr. George Louis Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories one son, George Lewis (Freda) Mitchell, Jr.; two daughters, Myra Jean (Harold) Tucker and Melissa Kaye (Wesley) Sweeney; one Goddaughter, Diane Stowe; six grandchildren, Damien, Darrell, Carlisa, Macayla, Sierra, and Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Naryah and Damien; three brothers, James Mitchell, Sylvester Mitchell, and Alphonso Mitchell; two sisters, Catherine King and Gloria Barber; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, November 17, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Second Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Church.
