George S. Horton, son of Betty Corenthia Norwood, was born on August 19, 1948 in Lenoir, North Carolina. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
George was a proud member of the Freedman High School Class of 1966. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. After receiving his honorable discharge he studied Criminal Justice at American University in Washington, D.C.
George found his soulmate in Augusta, Georgia, during the summer of 1985. He married Carolyn Dianne Jenkins on June 30,1990. They put down roots in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and built a beautiful life together.
After retirement, George began his entrepreneurial pursuits and established Jamesca Services. One of the highlights of his life was writing and publishing an inspiring memoir, Crossroads In Life. Sharing his story was deeply gratifying. George was passionate about volunteering and it brought him much joy. He dedicated many hours of hospitality to VFW Post 9010 and the Kernersville VA Clinic. George held a deep respect for nature. Much of his leisure time was spent outdoors admiring the beauty of God's precious creation.
George was a Silver Star member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Audit Committee, Community Garden Ministry, Laymen's League, Senior Ministry, Communion Singers, and Spiritual Choir.
George was preceded in death by his mother; two brothers, Eric and Evan Lipford; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
George leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Dianne Horton; his son and daughter, Jamaal and Escada; his dear grandson, Atticus; four sisters, Paulette Dixon of Laurel, Maryland, Melia Lipford Wiley of Kansas City, Missouri, Cara Lipford of Longmont, Colorado, and Leshawn Lipford Harper of Lenoir, North Carolina; three brothers, Douglas Lipford of Longmont, Colorado, Darrell Lipford of Lenoir, North Carolina, and Gerald Lipford of Longmont, Colorado; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Carolyn Jenkins of Augusta, Georgia; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cathy and Tony Clarke of Martinez, Georgia; his nephew and niece, Antonio and Alana Clarke of Martinez, Georgia; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
