IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George David
Edward Lorenzo Erwin
September 18, 2021
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
George David Edward Lorenzo Erwin was born on November 26, 1987. He is the son of Reverend George Erwin and the late Doris Jean Erwin. He leaves behind his wife, Cassandra Renee' Erwin of seven years; his daughter, Aaleigha J'Nay Erwin Wright, age 11; his son, David Lorenzo Erwin Wright, age 10; two brothers, Phillip and Corey Erwin; one sister, Natasha Erwin; one step-sister, Tiffany Gatling; a grandmother, Susie Portlock; a sister-in-law, Constance Wright; father-in-law, Elder Henry Jean Wright; mother-in-law, Vera Wright; a step-mother, Florence Erwin; and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
Many who knew George would describe him as kind, fun-loving, and genuine. His personality and smile could light up a room. He was the one that would give you advice whenever you needed, and the one who would always be there if you needed him.
George worked at FedEx in Kernersville, NC for many years. He was promoted to various leadership roles within the company. He was a supporter of FedEx and encouraged others to join the FedEx team where he was a Manager of Operations.
As a child, George gave his life to Christ at an early age at Center Grove AME Zion Church in Tobaccoville, NC, where his father was the pastor, with hopes of one day becoming a minister.
George was a devoted husband and father who loved his wife and children, who would do anything for them, even cook chicken every day for his picky wife. He would always laugh and play with his children from riding bikes, to playing pool, to even showing off his backflipping skills. You could also catch George frequently singing around the house and at work. He was a volunteer on the production team at Elevation Church. George and Cassandra led a Youth Group at Praise Assembly Church Ministries and sang on the choir at Clark's Creek Church before deciding on being a member at Elevation Church.
George was a great cook. He enjoyed preparing meals for his family each night and having Sunday dinner with his in-laws. He loved talking to his mother-in-law about some recipes and spices she should try. She could also count on him to try out her special meal items which he always seemingly tried and enjoyed, at least George convinced her that he enjoyed them. Constance and George had a running joke regarding the mother-in-law's macaroni and cheese dish which they constantly kidded about.
George enjoyed his wife and children. They participated in family movie nights, game nights, went on family vacations, and enjoyed eating at their favorite sushi places. George introduced his children to several food items that you did not expect children to enjoy such as zucchini, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, vegan meals, and some expensive cheeses. He wanted them to experience a lot of different cuisines and develop healthy eating habits.
If George was here, he would offer these words. I'm free. Don't grieve for me for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full. I've savored much, good friends, good times, my loved one's touch. If my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, September 24, 2021 at Elevation Church with Elder Henry J. Wright officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
