Obituary

Reverend George Ingram Clement, 86, was born July 24, 1934 in Winston-Salem, NC to Mr. Chiner Clement and Mrs. Carrie Massey Clement.

He attended the public schools and was a 1952 graduate of Atkins High School and always remained active with the Alumni Association. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. George furthered his education by attending Morgan State University, lettering as a lightweight wrestling champion. First, he received an associate degree then a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ministry from Chesapeake Bible College.

George was a charter member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church founded in 1942.  For many years he served with the Brownsville Church of God in Brooklyn, NY and his last 28 years were spent with the Hinesville church of God in Hinesville, GA where he served in many capacities, but he had a penchant for teaching.

As a youth, George was an Explorer Boy Scout and at the age of 15 he represented Goler and East Winston in Valley Forge, PA for the 40 th Anniversary and Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America in June 1950. A pianist, he studied under Vivian K. Bright.

George retired as a letter carrier from Brooklyn, NY after 30 years of service in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie L. Clement; his parents; and his sister, Nita C. Matthews.

He leaves to mourn his loss his son, Donald L. Clement of Brooklyn, NY; two stepchildren, Kenneth LeCount and Joyce L. Sitney of Brooklyn, NY; brother, Nathaniel D. Clement of Melbourne, FL; three devoted nieces, Dr. Nita M. Dewberry and Mrs. Daphney L. Matthews both of Winston-Salem, NC and Nicole D. Clement of Lebanon, PA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, November 6, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
