As commanded in Matthew 11:28, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." On a peaceful evening, on the 1st day of May, 2013, George William Baldwin was released of his earthly labor "...will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.…" I Thessalonians 4:17.
On the ninth autumn day of October in the Nineteenth Hundred and Twenty-Seventh year of Our Lord, George was born to Charlie William Baldwin and Sarah Perry Baldwin. The birthplace was a serene farm-site in the Township of Pittsboro, North Carolina, nestled in the County of Chatham. This Piedmont Physiographic Province was named after William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham, of Great Britain. There George remained until his teenage years. At that time in his youthful development, George's parents made the tough decision to allow their son to travel with his Uncle George and Aunt Nellie to Winston-Salem as support for the elder couple. In the years to follow, George attended Carver Public School in Forsyth County.
With the encouragement of a mutual friend, Evelena Clayborn, George met, courted, and married the lovely Martha Mae Payne in 1948. The young couple built their home in the Dreamland Community, and they raised three sons: Thomas (Phyllis Kimbrough), George Robert-deceased (Arwilda Canady), and Jack (Teresa Rush). George has always served as a model for hard-working, law-abiding, family-oriented, and community-minded citizen. He instilled the aforementioned principles with those whom he shared the virtues of faith, hope, and love. He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Church Outreach & World Center. In 1989, George retired from Western Electric Company after 35 years of dedicated service.
George is preceded in death by this wife of forty-two years, Martha, and his son, George Robert. In addition to his sons and their spouses listed above, George is also survived by his brother, Charles, and two sisters, Mary R. Evans and Geneva Vincent; four sisters-in-law, Marthola Payne, Edith Payne, Grace Baldwin and Jean Weston Baldwin; and nine grandchildren, Andreana Ramseur Blanton (Larry), Stephon Brown (Lilia), Martha Nicole Baldwin, Thomas Baldwin, III, Timothy Baldwin, Antonio Montgomery (Crystal) and Antorrio Montgomery (Cierra); twelve great & great-great-grandchildren, An'Dre Ramseur Sr, Stephon Brown, Jr., Savannah Brown, Kashira Kama, An'Dre Ramseur Jr., Ambryana Ramseur, Ladrian Blanton, Larry Blanton III; Aya Montgomery; Kali Montgomery; Toriana Montgomery; Abby Montgomery; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, May 6, 2013 at St. Peters World Outreach Center with Bishop J.C. Hash, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
