Geneva Rice Britt was born May 18, 1921 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Jessie and Annie Rice. She was the seventh of twelve children.
She was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public School System and graduated from Atkins High School in 1939. In 1959, she married William Britt. She became an active member of Mars Hill Baptist, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist and New Hope Missionary Baptist Churches during her lifetime. She was a Deaconess, sang on the Senior Choir and was on the Nurses Board. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Happy Hill Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Britt; son, Freddie Rice; and granddaughter, Twana Southerland Gilliam.
She is survived by her children, Hubert (Connie) Rice, Robert (Gwen) Rice of Philadelphia, PA, Melvin (Doris) Rice of Forest Heights, MD, Doris Rice (Dan)Teeter and Joseph Rice of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Inez Rice of Winston-Salem, NC and Mable Sims of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Benjamin Rice of Detroit, MI and Jessie Rice of Philadelphia, PA; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great, grand-daughter, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 21, 2010 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
