The circle has been broken, but not forever, we will see you again. The Lord called home our brother, uncle, father, and husband, Minister Garry Ray Duncan. Sunrise was December 5, 1950 and sunset was April 9, 2012 from this earthly world.
He attended the Winston-Salem public schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1969. He attended Piedmont Bible College and Shaw University until his health declined further.
He served in USMC, Corp Reserve, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a former Deputy Sheriff of Forsyth County; he worked at numerous car dealerships and won many awards.
He was licensed by Pastor Mack H.L. McConnel of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. He served as Associate Minister, associate Sunday school teacher- men class, youth director and pastor aid. He was a member of the Guilford Educational & Missionary Baptist Association. He was a life-time member of the Disable Veterans of America, and past member of America Legion Post 220.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mozell Duncan, Sr., mother Ruby L. Archie, step-mother, Lyslee V. Duncan, and siblings Leanza, Yvonne and Sandra.
A devoted husband and father for 38 yrs. he leaves to cherish his loving and dedicated wife, Harretta J. Duncan; two beautiful daughters, Erika D. Polite (DeMarcus) and Crystal E. Stout (Kevin); grandchildren, Latravis Fisher, Jr. and Kaya Polite; seven brothers, Robert Kelly, Mozell, Jr (Victoria), Lonnie (Lorraine), Robert Duncan (Jackie), Quinten (Charity), Robert Archie, Jr., and Rodney Archie; seven sisters, Bishop Faye Thomas (Tommie), Elder Hazel A. Rodwell (Steve), Cynthia, Shirlyn, Evelyn, Byrdia, and Andrea; special aunt, Charlie Bell Leviner; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special play-sisters, Annette Johnson and Gloria Clyburn.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, April 16, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Bishop Faye D. Thomas officiating and Reverend Mack H.L. McConnel eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
