Apostle Garland Alphonso Wallace, Jr., "Mickey", was born May 12, 1962 to Garland Alphonso Wallace, Sr. and Diane Yvonne Caldwell Wallace in Winston-Salem, NC. Garland ascended from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, September 1, 2017.
Apostle Wallace's mother; grandparents, Hubert Caldwell, Mary Elizabeth Caldwell and Samuel Wallace, and Henrietta Wallace preceded him in death.
Apostle Wallace was educated and received his degrees, certifications and training in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, AT&T State University, Shaw Divinity School and Virginia Union/ Piedmont District Bible College and Young Life.
Apostle Wallace was a Mechanical Engineer employed at Owens-Brockway Glass Container for 14 years. In January 1997 he became Area Director for Forsyth County Urban Young Life.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age, serving and attending Middlefork Christian Church for 30 years.
In February 1994, he accepted God's call to proclaim His Word. In April 1995, he became pastor of Little Bethlehem Christian Church in Eden, North Carolina until his call in January 1, 2002, to serve as Senior Pastor at Spencer Memorial Christian Church which is now Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center. God allowed him to see Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center as a Kingdom Building Ministry to empower, equip, and activate the saints to fulfill their Kingdom purpose , which was his heart's desire. From this vision was birthed the Five Gifts Ministry Training Center, Life Line Inc., The Life Line Café, The Gate Ministry, The Prodigal Son Prison Ministry, The Second Harvest Food Pantry and The Garland A. Wallace, Jr. Scholarship Fund.
Apostle Wallace has been an advocate for youth since 1992 as Advisory Council Member at the YWCA Empowering Family Center and Best Choice Centers. He accepted the call to Youth Outreach Ministry in 1997 serving middle and high school students. 1997-2012 he was the Chaplain for the Carver High School Football Team. He is the Founder/Director of the Summer Educational and Enrichment Program for Middle School students in Forsyth County who failed their EOG Test and a Motivational Speaker for Middle and High School Students Nationally. He is co-founder of SED, Success Every Day, a prevention and intervention gang elimination program. In 1998 he was awarded a Certificate in Recognition of Outstanding Achievement in Crime Prevention from the State of North Carolina Office of the Governor and Department of Crime Control and Public Safety Crime Prevention Division, a previous member of The Twin City Choristers and an Advisor to the Renaissance Community Choir.
Surviving family members are his devoted father, Garland Alphonso Wallace, Sr.; his devoted wife of 23 years, Ellen Devon Wallace; his devoted four children, Tierra (Zachary) Devon Taylor, Garland Alphonso Wallace, III, Brian Alphonso Wallace and Tamerra Devon Wallace; six aunts, Courtney Saunders, Phyllis (John) Clawson, Vecolia Caldwell, Jacqueline (Larry) Rogers, Annette Agnew and Marjorie Wallace; three uncles, Fredrick (Brenda) Caldwell, Ronald (Mary) Caldwell, and Johnnie Hinton, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Speas and Martha Goodwin Sprinkle; two brothers in-law, Lewis (Wanda) Westbury and James (Tukessa) Goodwin; a devoted cousin, Alfred (Karen) Williams; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center, 3894 Northampton Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, September 8, 2017 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Friday at Galilee MBC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Apostle Garland A. Wallace, Jr. scholarship fund c/o Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center, 3894 Northampton Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
