Frederick Willis Couthen, affectionately known as "Weedie", 76, was born on May 8, 1942 in Winston-Salem, NC to Samuel F. Couthen and Louise Welch Couthen.  He departed this life on June 29, 2018.

He retired with over 40 years of service from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and the Coliseum Shell Service Station both of Winston-Salem, NC.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond L. Couthen.

He is survived by his five children, Sherry McDermott, Jimmetra (Jeremy) Williams, Gethenia Bess, Terryl (Jennifer) Couthen, and Kim Couthen; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a loving brother, Sam (Jeanne) Couthen; two devoted sisters, Betty Wesley and Shirley (Johnny) Williams; and a host of dedicated nieces and nephews, family members and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James Linville officiating.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
