Fred Montgomery, Sr. was born on June 14, 1918 in York, SC where he also attended the local public schools. He passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014.
He served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946. He then settled in Winston-Salem where he went to work for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for approximately 38 years. He joined Dreamland Park Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of Salem Lodge #139.
He was married to the late Juanita Alsbrooks Montgomery.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa M. Bradshaw; brother, Joseph Bradshaw; sister, Edna Coles; and his cousins, Lucille Bradshaw and Estell M. Hall.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Fred Montgomery, Jr.; step-son, Franklin L. Brown; step-daughters, Barbara Alsbrooks (Alge Fields) Cain and Marlene (Walter) Henderson; four sisters, Naomi Meadius, Ruth Outler, Ruby Giles, and Yvonne (Frankie) Clanagan all of Pittsburgh, PA; two devoted caregivers, Richard L. Dillard and Chris Harrison; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who found strength for the day, courage for the night, and hope for tomorrow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Dreamland Park Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald C. Fisher, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am Wednesday at the Church.
