Deacon Franklin Roosevelt "Doc" Bennett, 73, son of the late Alberta Bennett Howard and Lonnie Odell Gist, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on April 1, 1941 in Woodruff, SC. As a teenager he moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he attended Carver High School and was a proud and active Carver High School Alumnus. Deacon Bennett later obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Winston-Salem State University and a Master's Degree from North Carolina A &T State University. Deacon Bennett was a faithful member and deacon at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
Deacon Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Joseph and Sibbie Bennett who reared him; and his sister, Mamie Bennett.
He left to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Bettie Williams Bennett of the home; a stepmother, Mrs. Lucy Dawkins Gist of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Felecia (Terrance) Bennett-Giles of W-S and Dr. Belinda (Dr. Forrest) McFeeters of Chicago, IL; one son, Dr. Jabbar R. Bennett of Providence, RI; grandchildren, LaShay (LarDarius) Fox, Justin (Jessie) Bennett, Isaiah Giles, and Terrance Giles Jr.; three great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Justin Jr., and Jocelyn; three brothers, James Marcella (Ollie) Gist, Freddie (Shirley) Gist, and Robert (Niecy) Gist of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Lonnie Mae (Ronald) Mack, and Mary Lee Tucker; a special nephew, John Bennett; special cousins, Michael (Lauren) Bennett and Lena Watson; as well as dedicated neighbors and friends, Robert and Jacqulan McCollum and other relatives and friends.

Homegoing Services for Deacon Franklin R. Bennett will be held at 12noon Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4129 Northampton Drive, Winston-Salem, NC with Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
