PFC Frank Worley, U.S. Army, is now accounted-for. Worley, a member of A Battery, 503rd Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, part of Support Force 21, was reported missing in action on February 12, 1951, after his unit battled Chinese forces near Hoengsong, South Korea. His remains were not recovered in the years before or after the Armistice.
On May 13, 1992, the North Korean government repatriated remains that purportedly had been recovered near Namjong-gu, North Korea, an area that corresponds to the Suan POW Camps complex area, which is associated with the remains of American servicemen from the Changbong-ni battles from which PFC Worley went missing. Laboratory analysis and the totality of the circumstantial evidence established some skeletal and dental remains as those of PFC Frank Worley to the exclusion of other reasonable candidates.
Frank is survived by his brothers, Leroy Worley of Winston-Salem, NC and Jack Worley of Chula Vista, CA.
Interment services will be held at 12noon Friday, November 6, 2015 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
Welcome home and rest in peace PFC Worley.
