Mr. Frank Allison Stafford, Jr., 83, passed away on Saturday evening, December 30, 2006, at his home in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born Sept. 10, 1923 in Winston-Salem, NC to Joe Stafford and Mary Miller Allison. He was educated in Winston-Salem and spent his life as a dedicated teacher. He began his career in Sanford, NC at the former W. B. Wicker School and later in Raleigh, NC where he taught at the former Washington Sixth Grade Center and West Millbrook Middle School. His teaching career lasted 50 years and he reluctantly retired at the age of 74. He also influenced the lives of many children in his position of Community Recreation Center Supervisor in the Walnut Terrace Community in Raleigh, NC and at a variety of recreation centers for the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ramona Hicks Stafford; his children, Dennis Lewis, Frank McKissick, Vincent Stafford, Bobby Stafford, Marilyn Stafford Shackelford, Lenora Stafford Williams and Shauna Stafford; ten grandchildren; a sister-in-law Peggy Hicks Joyner; one brother-in-law Marshall Hicks; a cousin Zola Mae Walker; and a host of other friends and former co-workers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 12 NOON from the Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Winston-Salem, NC with the Reverend Seth O. Lartey officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 12 NOON on Saturday at the Church.
