Frank Smith, Sr., 76 affectionately known as "Billy", departed this life on Sunday, June 15, 2008 after a brief period of illness. He was the son of James Harvey and Queen Esther Smith-Gill. Frank was born June 2, 1932 and was a Baptist by faith.
He was raised in the city where he attended the local public schools and was formally employed with Terminix and Wilson Pest Controls where he retired in 1994 with a combination of over 40 years of service at both locations.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie and Charlie Smith; one sister, Thelma Harris; four aunts, Ruth, Sally, Mary Magdalene, and Annie Ronnie Smith.
He leaves to cherish and love him forever his wife of 58 years, Aragatha Smith; four daughters, Dina (Steven) Daniels, Gwen (Kenneth) Rasheed, Lora Smith and Licia (Albert) Wright; five sons, Frank (Lucille) Smith, Jerome (Deb) Smith, Robert (Catrina) Smith, Charles Smith and Timothy Smith; 25 grandchildren, Pablo (Kesha) Smith of Charlotte, NC, Jamaal Rasheed of Baltimore, MD, Tamala and Rahsaan Ingram, Monta (Tasha), Jerron, LaMisha, Kimmo, Antoine, Tierra, Tiffany, Kendrel, and Katerria Smith, Jameilia Wright, Albert Wright, Jr., Tunisha Brooks, Robert, II., Robert, III., Kayla Galloway, Kesha Robinson, Tywan Tart, Leticia Pettigrew, Chris and Anthony Taylor all of Winston-Salem, NC; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ingram and Mary Lynch; special cousins, Robert and Willie Smith; special friend, Annie Mae Squire and from Wades Amaco Service Station on N. Patterson Ave: Wade, Mike, Ted, and Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon Saturday, June 21, 2008 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Charles E. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30pm until Noon on Saturday at the Chapel.
