Mr. Frank Junious Brake, Sr., 83 of 5081 Bismark Street departed this life on April 16, 2009 after an extended illness. He was born to the late Willie Junious Brake and Elizabeth Smith Brake Artis on November 9, 1925 in Wilson, NC. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1948. He worked as an educator for Louisburg City Schools, Statesville City Schools, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. He retired from the Career Center in 1989 and was also a brick mason. He contributed to the construction of many homes, buildings, and other projects in the area.
He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, USA where he served as a Deacon, and was a member of The Voices of Grace Gospel Choir.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Juanita Samuel Brake of Winston-Salem, NC; five children, Dr. Myrna B. Williams (Dr. Robert L. Williams) of Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Felecia B. Prince (Huey S. Prince) of Ellenwood, GA, Reverend Roslyn B. Mafico (Reverend Dr. Temba Mafico) of Smyrna, GA, and Mrs. Tammye B. Layer (Kip L. Layer) of Orlando, FL; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Mrs. Rematha B. Shaw of Hyattsville, MD; two special friends, Mr. Dan E. Smith and Mr. Floyd Sharpless of the city; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12Noon Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from the Grace Presbyterian Church with Reverend Samuel Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12Noon on Wednesday at the Church.
