Mrs. Frances S. Cooper, of 282 Wesleyan Lane and formerly of Washington, DC departed this life on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Frances was born, the youngest of 16 children to John A. and Mary E. Smackum. She was educated in the Washington, DC schools and graduated from Nursing School and Atlantic Business College. She retired from a secretarial position with the Joint Chief of Staff of the Army at the Pentagon before moving to Winston-Salem, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roscoe V. Cooper; all 15 of her siblings; and a devoted friend, Quentin Holly.
Survivors include a daughter, Esther Cooper Rockette; grandchildren, Kim and Kenard (Donna); great grandchildren, Brittany N., Briana N., Kiyesha C., and Rhaveana L. Rockette; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 13, 2007 at Saint Luke's Catholic Church in Washington, DC. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned at a later date in Winston-Salem, NC. Stewart Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements in Washington, DC.
A memorial services will be held at 6:30pm Friday, August 31, 2007 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 1625 E 12th Street, Winston-Salem, NC.
