Floyd Sharpless, 84, of 1015 Lowvalley Court, affectionately known as "Mug Slinger" and "Papa Floyd", departed his life September 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Duplin Co., NC to the late Oscar and Bertha Sharpless.

Floyd attended the Duplin Co. schools and NC A&T State University, and was a retired brick mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and six brothers.

Left to cherish his memories are one brother, Lestere (Mildred) Sharpless of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law, Alma Sharpless of Duplin Co, NC; a devoted friend, Barbara Conrad; daughters, Elaine Parrott and a devoted daughter, Laquana (Cedric) Glenn; two sons, Kevin Parrott of FL and Anthony Parrott of the city; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one devoted grandson, Leonard R. Green, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Clyburn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Chapel.
