Miss Flora Eleanor Golden, 98, was born in W-S, NC on October 14, 1915 to Mr. Jessie S. Golden, Sr. and Mrs. Amy Wilson Golden. She passed away February 10, 2014. Miss Golden was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU) and New York University. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System with over 40 years of teaching experience. Miss Golden was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church for over 80 years and was very active in the Missionary service. Always the educator, Miss Golden's passion was encouraging others with kind words and gifts. She really loved her New Bethel children. She enjoyed her bright green '64 Chevy Impala and fellowship at The Hawthorne Inn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jessie Golden, Jr. and Ann Golden. Her legacy of love continues in her niece, Rosyln (Winston) Ross of York Town Heights, NY; cousins, Nancy (Jerry) Dodd of Walkertown, NC, Mildred Hairston and Betty Smith both of Walnut Cove, NC; her New Bethel and Hawthorne Inn families, neighbors, friends, and special caregivers, Nathaniel and April Berry, Charles and Romaine Eaton, Alenia Sligh, Linda Morris, and Constance Segers. Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, February 17, 2014 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Kendall D. Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, Miss Golden has requested that donations be made in her memory to the New Bethel Baptist Church or Winston-Salem State University.
