Obituary

Mrs. Flora K. Alexander departed this life June 28, 2008 at her home at 93 years of age.

She was born to George and Irene King of Fayetteville, NC and was affectionately known as "Sweet Flo" to those close to her.

Mrs. Alexander received degrees from North Carolina Central University and a Masters Degree from Winston-Salem State University. She was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church for over 50 years where she served in various capacities including the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Sunday School Superintendent, and the Cathedral Choir, where she was known for her melodious voice.

Her legacy includes being an educator in Caswell and Winston-Salem Forsyth County School systems, a member of numerous Service Organizations including Sethos Court No. 105, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, and a faithful volunteer in her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Mr. John Henry Alexander, Jr.

Left to cherish loving and happy memories are her daughter, Gwendolyn McLaughlin of Winston-Salem, NC who cared for her during her last years; two sisters, Alice Lee Jones and Virginia Blue of Dunn, NC; two grandchildren, Renee Jones and Tyrone McLaughlin; two great-grandchildren, Dominique McLaughlin and Desiree' Jones; a son-in-law, Clarence McLaughlin of Winston-Salem, NC a grand-dog, "Baby"; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm today, July 1, 2008 from the Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Dr. Roy A. Swann officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Tuesday at the Church.
