Mr. Fernando Fonta Bray transitioned this life on November 20, 2018. He was the son of Immogene Bray and the late Julius Bray, Jr. of Winston Salem NC. Fernando graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1980 and matriculated to Winston Salem State University and graduated in 1987. While attending WSSU, Fernando studied Business Administration and became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
Fernando worked for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System for the last 16 years. His co-workers described him as helpful, professional, supportive, and a great conversationalist. He was always willing to share his knowledge with others.
Fernando loved to read, ride motorcycles and eat good food. He was known to share his views on any topic and provide challenging points of view. His love for his family was evident as he would often share how proud he was of his son Jaylon, a 2017 graduate of UNC-Greensboro. Fernando was a devoted family man. He believed in the "village" and modeled his belief every day with everyone he encountered. He would encourage his family to think big and take risks. His strong faith in God was also prevalent in his actions of supporting family, friends and co-workers. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of Christ in Charlotte NC.
He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Bray, Jr.; and daughter, Jaida Monique Bray.
Fernando 'Fonta' leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Gerena March Bray; one son, Jaylon Doran Bray; his loving mother, Immogene Sullivan Bray; one sister, Nikkie (Pierre) Mayo of Farmington Hills, MI; two sisters-in-love, Tunya March (Randy) Mayfield of Clemmons NC and Kendra March of Greensboro NC; five nieces, Dionne Carelock, Tia and Tortia Mayfield, and Zion and Charisma Mayo; and a host of other relatives family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Carver Road Church of Christ. The family visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Sunday at the Church. Interment will be held at 11:00am Monday, November 26, 2018 in Parklawn Memorial Park.
