Mrs. Evolia Constance Gaither Hayes was born to William Green Gaither and Carrie Barber Gaither. She went home to be with her devoted husband of 67 years, Clyde Hayes, Sr. on January 15, 2018. Evolia or "Vol" as she was known to her friends graduated from Atkins High School in 1950. Pursuing her passion to teach kids, she attended Howard University and graduated from Winston-Salem State University. This propelled her life long career working in the Winston-Salem School System with a concentration in special needs. Evolia was the next to the youngest in a large family of eleven.

The Gatiher Family began their Christian education at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, later joining New Bethel Baptist Church. After her marriage, she joined her husband at Cleveland Avenue Christian Church where she was a lifelong member.  Evolia was a caring, loving, warm-hearted person who cherished her family and friends and would give the clothes off her back for anyone in need.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Clyde Hayes, Jr.; five sisters; and three brothers.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are two sons, Phillip DeLeon (Constance) Hayes, Sr. and Gregory Wayne Hayes; grandchildren, Jamal Hayes, Techina Hayes, Lafia Hayes, Tarek (Kenya) Hayes, Chanelle Hayes, Phillip (Delana) Hayes, Jr., Joseph (Tonisha) Hayes, Cherie Allen, Kyra Hayes, and Jathan Wolfinbarger; her sisters, Jessie Dixon and Shirley (Howard) Barber; in-laws, Jewel Gaither, Odessa Gaither, Robert Harris, Barbara Hayes, and Velma Friende; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Greater Church with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 12:30pm on Saturday at the Church.
