Our beloved mother, sister, and friend Evermae "Eva" Masango passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 17, 2015. She was born on September 7, 1945 in Chamanimani, Zimbabwe to Diana and Amon Matsikenyiri.
Before even moving to the United States, she accepted Christ as her Savior at a very early age. She studied undergrad at the University of Rhode Island where she obtained a bachelor's degree in nutrition. With a strong passion for nutrition and education, she went on to receive her Master's Degree in nutrition at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. After finishing her education, she worked at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison, New Jersey as the head nutritionist and taught nutrition at East Brunswick Vo Tech High School. She was hard working and dedicated to her profession as she served as a Registered Nutrition Consultant for the State of New Jersey for over thirty years.
Eva was very passionate about her family and loved her children beyond measures. She was always motivating her son, Tap, to finish college and encouraging her daughter, Tendai, to do well in life. She was an advocate for higher learning and made sure she laid out the best path for her children to succeed - often having to go without her own necessities just to provide for them. Always willing to go the extra mile to help others, she was a caring mother and a dear friend to many who enjoyed making people happy. She was often sought by friends and family members for life advice and was well known for her undeniable wisdom.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband whom she married on June 20, 1970, Lazarus Masango; and her brother, Arthur Matsikenyiri.
Left to cherish her memories are her eldest son, Tapuwa Masango of Kernersville, NC; her daughter, Tendai Masango of High Point, NC; her siblings, Patrick, Donald, Gladys, Constance, Margaret, and Blessing Matsikenyiri; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and tons of lifelong friends who could never forget her and what she represented
Eva will always be remembered by her loved ones for her smile, her laugh, her feistiness, and her zest for life. She had such a strong-will and overcame so many physical obstacles while still finding a way to enjoy life every day until the very end of her battle. She will be forever missed and never forgotten; may her spirit live on always in the hearts of her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, 808 Hilltop Street High Point, NC with Reverend Amos L. Quick, III officiating.
