Mrs. Everleen Moorman Byrd was born December 1, 1911 in Union County, SC to the late James and Emma Miller Moorman. She transitioned to her Heavenly home early Wednesday morning, February 22, 2012.
Mrs. Byrd was married to the late Deaver "Wash T" Byrd for almost 60 years. Together, they made their home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where they reared 5 children. She was an active member of First Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Deaconess Board, the Senior Choir, and the Senior Missionary Group. Mrs. Byrd was recognized as The Church Mother in 2010.
She was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after dedicating 47 years of service. She was also a dedicated member of the community serving as a member of the Y-Activities Club, The New Carver Community Club, a Volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and participated in the Area Senior Olympics.
During her early retirement years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling to many places near and far, and gathering with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Ruthie Lee Francis; seven brothers and her sister.
Mrs. Byrd leaves to celebrate the memory of her life daughters, Joanne (James) Rollinson, Arnella (Clinton) Brown, and Elwillie (Carl) Jarrett all of W-S, NC; son, James (Audra) Byrd of Eden, NC; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; adopted daughter in Christ, Joyce Powell and family of Temple Hills, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 at First Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
