Evelyn Yvonne Wilson was born on January 19, 1960, in Alexandria, Louisiana (La.), to the late Every Lee and Edgar Miles Sr. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age. She made sure to connect with a local church wherever she was. Evelyn was an active member of Praise Assembly Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. She sang in the adult choir and was involved in other ministries as she was led by the Lord.

Evelyn departed this life after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on June 5, 2024 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Evelyn received her primary education in the Louisiana public school system. She graduated from Peabody Magnet High School with honors. After graduating from high school, she took college courses in pursuit of her nursing degree. She later enrolled at Winston-Salem State University where she received her B.A. degree in Political Science. During her collegiate years, she was also inducted as a member in the Alpha Epsilon Alpha honor society.

Evelyn moved to Albany, N.Y. in her late teens after her mother's passing. Evelyn's early employment included working in nursing homes caring for aging and disabled individuals, which she loved doing. Evelyn later decided to work in the banking industry where she was a bank teller for several years.

She then moved to Virginia for a few years and ended up making Winston-Salem, N.C. her home. In Winston-Salem she worked for the Sheriff Department and later decided to go back to her love of working with people, which landed her with children in the public school system.

Evelyn was a very spirited person that loved singing all types of music, especially gospel. She had a very impressive record collection and was very fashionable in her dress. She had a knack for decorating her home and used this gifting to help decorate for church functions.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Geraldine Miles and Francis Pedew; and brothers, Edgar Miles, III and David "DJ" Bush.

She leaves the following to cherish her memory: sisters, Rosie Collins, Irma Wooten, Lucille Gilmore, and Mary Gause; brother, Eddie "Teddy" Miles;  lifelong friend, Pat Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

"We all love her but God loves her best and called her home."

Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 14, 2024 at Praise Assembly Church Ministries with Dr. Johnny L. York officiating.
