Obituary

Apostle Evelyn Monroe was born January 23, 1943 to the late Bishop Matthew Thompson and Missionary Louise Ruth Thompson of Anderson, SC, they relocated to Winston-Salem, NC. She passed away January 5, 2013.

Apostle Monore was married to Parnell Monroe, Jr. for 54 years. Apostle Monroe attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from Aurora Beauty College.

Apostle Monroe was called by God into the ministry in 1974. She served as the Associate Minister at Mt. Able Pentecostal Holiness Church for thirteen years and as an Elder for eight years. Apostle Monroe formed a prayer band in 1974, and through this ministry God birthed a vision in 1992 for her own church: Crusaders for Christ, established now for 20 years. She has been a Minister for 38 years and a Pastor for 20 years.

Left to cherish her memories are he husband of 54 years, Parnell Monroe, Jr.; five children, LaWana (Ferman) Wallace, Parnell Monroe, III, Calvin (Katsue) Monroe, Elease (Anthony) Smith, and Erik (Marchelle) Monroe; one sister, Overseer Elizabeth Nesmith; one brother-in-law, Tommy Nesmith; twenty-one grandchildren, Calvin Monroe, Jr., Parnell Monroe, IV, Jasmine Monroe, Dijuana Douthit, Erik Monroe, Jr., Ebony Monroe, Evelyn Monroe, Anthony Smith, Jr., Matthew Monroe, Sierra Chaplin, Antoinette Smith, Marerika Monroe, Shervon Monroe, Alexis Smith, Lamont Monroe, Erik Monroe, III, Joshua Monroe, Malachi Monroe, Zena Wallace, Aaron Johnson, and Nora Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Xavier Monroe, Shamiya Monroe, Cerriah Monroe, Elijah Monroe, Lee Anna Wallace, and Mekhi Wallace; a host of Godchildren, nieces, and nephews, a devoted sister-in-law, Debra Butler; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Jerry Jones officiating and Apostle Hattie Weathers eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 7pm until 8pm on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
