Evelyn Johnson Knight was born to Dorothy Johnson Rush and Douglas Rush on November 22, 1945. An independent woman, Evelyn traveled and lived in several states over the course of her life including North Carolina, New York and Texas.

As a young woman, Evelyn was blessed to meet the great love of her life, Carlye James McDonald. Unfortunately, he preceded her in death in the year 1991.

Evelyn loved dogs, breeding and raising many chihuahuas. Several family members proudly cherished her beloved companions. Sassy, a shih tzu gifted to Evelyn by her oldest son, was the final dog to share her love and she did so for ten years. Even more than her dogs, Evelyn loved children and cared for many of her grandchildren right up until her illness overcame her.

Known for her loving and kind spirit, Evelyn was often heard responding "I love you TOO much!" when family members declared their love for her. Her vivacious personality kept family and friends entertained whenever they gathered.

After spending time surrounded by all of her children and many loved ones barely a week before, Evelyn heard His summons and went to be with our Lord on March 14, 2016 after a brief but valiantly fought battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her two brothers, Harry Rush and Douglas Rush, Jr. (her brother, Nathaniel Rush preceded her in death); two sisters, Alma Capochichi (Richard, husband) and Crisilla Isley (Carlyle, husband); eldest daughter, Sherry McDonald (John, husband); sons, Robert Rush and Anthony Rush (Shauna, wife) and youngest daughter, Carllet McDonald. Additionally, she will be missed by 21 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, special friend Marvin Knight and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm March 21, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sylvester Reed officiating.
