Evelyn Gholston Hicks, affectionately known as "Earline", was born in Winston-Salem, NC on August 2, 1938 and received her heavenly wings on September 27, 2023.

Evelyn was born to Earl Thompson and Roberta Gholston, both preceded her in death.  She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Robert and Katie Gholston, who also preceded her in death.

Evelyn graduated from Atkins High School in 1956 and matriculated to Star Stenographic School of Business. Earline had a special gift of being able to talk to anyone and worked for Bell South as a Directory Assistance Operator for 26 years.  She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she served on the Ladies Progressive Auxiliary.  She was also an active member of Seniors of Distinction, a local senior citizens group.

Earline truly had a zest for life and was a very positive and optimistic person.  She loved being with her family and friends, laughing, talking, and joking around.  She enjoyed gardening, shopping, playing bingo, and listening to music.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 53 years, Rosevelt Hicks; daughter, Cynthia Moir; son, Leo (Debra)  Farrington; five grandchildren, Bryant (Dondi) McDowell, Leo Andrews, Krystal Farrington, Rhyan
(Nike) Robeson, and Brandon Farrington; five great-grandchildren, Jaleel Robinson, Ka'Niyah Frasier, Kyrah Frasier, Annaliyah Farrington, and Elijah McCoy; two sisters, Bertha (Clinton) Gholston and Patsy Edmonds; two brothers, Norman (Alicia) Gholston and Kenny (Alice) Gholston; one brother-in-law, Samuel (Alice) Chestnut; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 12noon Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
