Evelyn Terese Hairston was born on April 28, 1965 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late Arthur W. Hairston and Genel P. Hairston. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools and graduated from Parkland High School.

Evelyn continued her education at Guilford Community College, where she earned her license as a cosmetologist. With a passion for beauty and entrepreneurship, she opened her own salon, Hair Frenzy, which became a beloved part of the community. She later earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Winston-Salem State University and completed her Master's degree at Capella University.
Throughout her career, she also worked with several salons in the city, including Magnificent Sam's and JCPenney.

Affectionately known as "Weesie Gal" by her family, Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and strength touched all who knew her. She is survived by her two beloved children, Najee N. Hairston of the home and Faith M. N. Hairston of Atlanta, Georgia; and her cherished grandson, Najee N. Hairston, II.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur W. Hairston; and her brother, Arthur W. Hairston Jr.

Evelyn also leaves to cherish her memory a host of loving relatives, extended family members, and the many lives touched through Hair Frenzy.
When her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. John A. Jackson.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, January 30, 2026 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.  The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Friday at the Chapel.
