After a full and active life, Evelyn Mock Childs passed away peacefully on March 10, 2013 at the K.B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born January 11, 1925 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Julius Columbus Mock and Roxie Mitchell.
She attended Atkins High School and was a graduate of Forsyth Technical Institute where she completed her studies as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was very devoted to her career during her 23 years of employment at the N.C. Baptist Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless people.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Childs, Sr., a son, Robert Childs, a brother, Douglas Mock, Sr., and sisters, Elizabeth Byrd and Dorothy Hopson.
Left to celebrate her legacy are her children, Patsy M. Cuthrell, Gloria Childs, and Reginald Chaney of Winston-Salem, NC, Gwendolyn C. Sample of Kernersville, NC, Arthur Childs, Jr. of Washington, DC, and Vivian Childs Bitting of Columbus, OH; a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; as well as other cherished and beloved cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will take place at 1pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1840 Butler Street W-S, NC with the Reverend Ronnie Roseboro officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
