Obituary

Eurah Lee Cunningham Simpson, affectionately known as "Mama Simpson" and "Aunt Lee", formally of 17th Street, went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2013 at The Regency Care of Clemmons surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Simpson was born on October 14, 1921, to the late Seth and Hester Barnes Cunningham in Lancaster, SC, the fourth of ten children.

She retired from Wake Forest University after over 30 years of service. Mrs. Simpson was a charter member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with over 50 years of faithful service until her health began to fail. She was an Honorary Deaconess and was a member of various choirs and mission groups.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin R. Simpson Sr.; and her son, Melvin R. Simpson Jr. "Bobby".

She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Alfreda Simpson Robinson and her husband Jonathan 'Joe' Robinson Sr. and Beverly Simpson Williford and her husband Johnny Raye Williford; eleven grandchildren, Teresa R. Williams (Clarence) of Atlanta, GA, Catherine R. Robinson (Norm) of Charlotte, NC, Jonathan 'Joe' Robinson Jr. (Deirdre) of W-S, NC, Travella R. Free (Richard) of Greensboro, NC, Melvin Robinson (Ashley), Paris Williford, Krystal Williford and Kevin Gray all of W-S, NC, Cynthia S. Jackson (Ron) and Walter Simpson of MD, and Corynthia Simpson of CT; fifteen great-grandchildren; her surviving siblings include a devoted sister, Corine C. Tillman of Washington, DC and Earlene C. Davis of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Margaret S. Johnson of MD; two sisters-in-law, Mildred C. Thomas of W-S, NC and Thelma Cunningham of Charlotte, NC; a special friend who was like a daughter, Alice Johnson and a special niece, Sharon Cunningham both of W-S, NC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 12:30pm Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4129 Northhampton Dr., Winston-Salem, NC, 27105 with Reverend Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating. The family hour will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Wednesday at the Church. The family will assemble and leave from the home of her daughter at 573 Drumheller Road Clemmons, NC 27012.
The Simpson, Robinson, and Williford Families would like to thank the staff of 'The Crest of Clemmons' for their love and support in caring for our mother. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Meals-on-Wheels.
