Ms. Etta Ruth Burgess Murray, 73, of 3755 Danube Drive, affectionately known as "BABY MAE", departed this life on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at her residence.
She was born on September 9, 1933 in Williamsburg County in Lake City, South Carolina to Hayes Burgess and Elvenia McFadden Burgess. She attended Carver High School in Lake City, SC.
Ms. Murray was a member of Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mary Magdalene Missionary Circle and Ace Ministry. She was a former member of St. Mark Baptist Church and was a devoted member of the Exquisite Ladies Club for 25 years. Ms. Murray was formerly employed by US Airways where she retired after more than 30 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her father and her brother-in-law, Sonny Singletary.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Delma (Bobby) Crosby and Yvonne (Darnell) Nelson of Winston-Salem, and Sterlin Murray of the home; one son, Clifis (Sophia) Murray of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her mother, Elvenia McFadden Burgess; two sisters, Leatha B. Singletary and Helen (James) Brown of Rochester, NY; two brothers, Abraham Burgess and Gene McFadden of Lake City, SC; a devoted cousin, Amy McFadden of Lake City, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend William Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Church.
