Mr. Ervan Levern Betts, Sr. was born January 12, 1959 to Mr. Curtis Betts, Sr. and Mrs. Iwilla Ellis in Whiteville, NC. Ervan attended the local public schools in Whiteville and graduated from West Forsyth High School class of 1977 in Winston-Salem. He also graduated from Southeastern Community College in Whiteville and also attended Guilford Community College. Ervan was employed at Red Lobster and Golden Corral Restaurant as a cook for a few years. He was Assistant Manager for Clemmons Cleaners before his disability. He united with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church and was a member of the Young Adult Choir and the Male Chorus. His passion was singing and assisting the Organist teaching parts. He also loved baseball and basketball.
Ervan was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Betts, Sr.; his son, Ervan L. Betts, Jr.; two brothers, Curtis Betts, Jr. and Dwaine Betts.
He leaves not to mourn but to cherish his memories, his wife of 28 years, Mrs. Agnes P. Betts of the home; his mother, Mrs. Iwilla Ellis of Bladenboro, NC; one stepson, Mr. Diverous Parms of the city; four grandchildren, Ms. Mikiyah Frazier, Ms. Aysia Greer Parms, Mr. A'king Parms, and Mr. Ashton Parms all of the city; two great grandchildren of the city; one sister, Ms. Willadeen Betts of Whiteville, NC; his father-in-law, Deacon Johnny Parms, Jr. of the city; three brothers-in-law, Deacon James Parms, Deacon Johnny (Lawanda) Parms, III and Deacon William D. (Angie) Parms all of the city; four sisters-in-law, Ms. Annette Parms, Mrs. Sabre (Anthony) Caldwell, Mrs. Cynthia P. (Chris) Gilchrist of the city and Mrs. Patricia (Ronnie) Skinner of Colfax, NC; nine aunts, Mrs. Ervee Bellamy (Levonni), Ms. Emma Kelly, Ms. Lula Kelly, Ms. Katherine Kelly, Mrs. Mary A. Hall (Scomiller), Ms. Sarah Parms, Ms. Elizabeth Gooden, Ms. Mary Ann Thomas and Ms. Christine Hamer; two uncles, Mr. Joseph Kelly and Mr. LeAndrews (Ann) Kelly; a devoted friend, Mr. Mike Spease; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and admirers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Darryl Young officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Church.
